The Eisler Berlin Higher School of Music ( Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin ) is a German conservatory located in Berlin .

It was established in 1949 by the Ministry of Public Education of the GDR due to the fact that the former higher musical educational institutions of Berlin remained in its western sector , and opened for classes in 1950 . The name of Hans Eisler , who taught in it, was assigned to the Higher School of Music after his death in 1964 . The first head of the conservatory was Georg Knepler , among the professors of the first composition there were several notable musicians - in particular, Rudolf Wagner-Regeni and Karl Adolf Martinsen . In the year 1953 . a department for directing musical theater was opened in the conservatory; in 1965, a secondary special music school was opened at the conservatory (since 1991, the Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach Gymnasium). In 2005, the Eisler Graduate School of Music and the Berlin University of the Arts jointly established the Berlin Jazz Institute .
