The song "Fever" performed by American singer Madonna was included in her 1992 album " Erotica ". A cover version was later released on a single in the UK in 1993. In the United States, the song was never officially released as a single.

The idea to record a cover version of “Fever” came to Madonna in the studio where the recording of the album “ Erotica ” took place. During the work on the album, the singer recorded the song “Goodbye To Innocence”. Approaching the final stage of recording the song, she suddenly began to hum the lines from the song “Fever”. Thus, the idea of a separate recording of the famous song was formed. Goodbye To Innocence was not included in the 1992 Erotica album. However, excerpts from the recording can be heard in the “ Up Down Suite ” duble mix, which has become a bonus track for the maxi single “ Rain ”. The vocals involved in the recording of the song “Rain” were also involved in the remix of the song “Fever” - “Back To The Dub 1”.

Apart from the album, Madonna's “Fever” was first released on the back of the single “ Bad Girl ” and only then on March 23, 1993 as a full-fledged single. It is worth noting that the single “ Bad Girl ” significantly exceeded the success of “Fever”. The single “Fever” was broadcast on various radio stations and was shown on music television channels. The cover version of the song was named “Edit 1”, and is only commercially available on the German version of the CD single “Rain” .

Although the original version is the first single song, many listeners were surprised that the sound of the original version seemed slower. Previously, the audience was not aware that the version shown on the video was edited . However, the success achieved with the release of the hit song “Fever” performed by Madonna became one of the highest in comparison with other singles from the album “ Erotica ”. Fever reached its peak at * 6 after just four weeks. At this time, the single “ Bad Girl ” on the lists, the singer’s previous work, stopped at 10th position in the music charts. The success achieved with the release of the single “Fever” was supposed to contribute to the growth of relatively weak sales and strengthen the dominant position of new songs of Madonna in the lists of musical charts.

The original version of Madonna’s song was not officially released, as Madonna performed this version at one of her 1993 concert performances, The Girlie Show . Madonna also performed the song “Fever” on the television program Saturday Night Live in January 1993.

Music video

In the video clip for the song “Fever”, directed by Stefan Sednaoui, the plot shows Madonna in the image of a girl who appears during the video clip in various extravagant costumes during the performance of the song “Fever”. The video was shot from April 10 to April 11, 1993 at Greenwich Studios in Miami with the participation of American actor Arsenio Hall . The world premiere of the clip took place on May 11, 1993 on MTV .

Before the premiere in the UK, the video clip was edited, and only after professional video editing was released on television. The video included shots of the singer’s previously shot videos : Cherish , Justify My Love , La Isla Bonita , Like a Virgin and Express Yourself . The original video for the song “Fever” is available for viewing on DVD- video in the publication “Collection 93:99” ( Eng. The Video Collection 93:99. )

Official Mixes

It is sometimes incorrectly stated that released mixes (in particular, Daniel Abraham mixes) contain the backing vocals of En Vogue . Backing vocals were provided by Donna DeLeroy and Nikki Harris (backing vocalists of Madonna), who took part in a performance during her tour and in the recording of her music albums. Despite the fact that the vocals of DeLeroy and Harris were not used in the album version of the song “Fever”, the singer widely used it in many mixes of the song. “Fever” is the only Madonna song to date with so many different versions).
