In 1956, at the age of 18, he was accepted into the State Song and Dance Ensemble of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, in which he participated in the VI Festival of Youth and Students (1957, the ensemble won the II prize), in the Decade of Ossetian art and literature in Moscow (1960 ) and toured many times abroad. As a dancer, he participated in the I All-Russian Competition of Variety Artists (diploma).

In 1962, especially for The II All-Russian Competition of Variety Artists put the number “Duel” with which the GAPiT artists became diploma winners (third degree diploma). For successful performance on tours abroad, he was awarded a diploma of the Komsomol Central Committee, in 1963 received the title of Honored Artist of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

In 1964, he completed an internship at the USSR Academy of Science and Technology (headed by I. A. Moiseev) and entered the ballet master’s department of the Institute of Theatrical Art. Lunacharsky (course leaders Rostislav Zakharov and Leonid Lavrovsky ) and began to study the specialty "ballet directing". Among the teachers Varziev were Tamara Tkachenko , Alexander Lapauri , Raisa Struchkov , Anatoly Shatin .

As a first-year student, he collaborated with the student amateur folk dance ensemble "OSSA" (Ossetian Student Amateur Ensemble) at Moscow State University, making new productions for him. In 1966, while studying at the 3rd year, he chose the choreographic composition “Mother” in his native ensemble, which was included in his regular repertoire (set design by Zinaida Dzakhova ) as a student practice. Also in 1966, on the recommendation of the GITIS professors Tamara Tkachenko and Rostislav Zakharov, Yury Grigorovich , famous in those years, took on his master classes on the territory of the Bolshoi Theater the student Hadjismel Varziev. After one of the conversations with student Varziev, Grigorovich summoned the soloist to the Bolshoi Theater dancer Alexander Lavrenyuk to rehearse to embody the solo dance number “Tour” in the Bolshoi Theater. In turn, Rostislav Zakharov advised Varziev to compose musical accompaniment recommended to contact a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, Eduard Artemyev . Costume designs created by Elbrus Sakkaev; afterwards, after the dance was completed and the second character, the “hunter,” was introduced to the dance, beginning composer Vyacheslav Artyomov wrote the music and the dance was included in the repertoire of the “Alan” ensemble in a slightly modified name - “Jug-Tour” ).

In 1968, Varziev was appointed art director and chief choreographer of the State Song and Dance Ensemble of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, initiated and insisted that the ensemble be given the name "Alan". In this capacity, he prepared a concert program for a tour of the cities of the republics of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. For the all-Union competition of state dance groups for the right to represent the USSR at the IX Festival of Youth and Students , put the "Duet" and the song "Ossetian Suite". As a result, the ensemble won 3 gold medals in Sofia, and Varziev himself, as a dance director, received a diploma from the hands of the jury chairman Tatyana Ustinova, “the best choreographer of the festival”.

In 1969, having defended his thesis [* 2] , Varziev received the specialty "Ballet Directing" with the qualification "Director-choreographer" ( Diploma E№ 548325, registration number 4276 ).

In 1972 he was a member of the pedagogical staff of the advanced training courses for ballet masters of the Caucasus and Volga region, he lectured on the course “The Art of Choreographer”.

From 1973 to 1976, as artistic director and chief choreographer of the Adygea National Folk Dance Ensemble " Nalmes ", he renewed the composition of the ensemble and made several of his own productions.

In 1979 he was the chief choreographer of the State Equestrian Theater " Narty ".

In 1980-1982 - the chief choreographer of the folk dance ensemble "Art". Under his leadership, the ensemble participated in the opening ceremony of the " Olympic Village ", built for the Olympic Games in Moscow and the Sofia International Festival-Competition (1st prize).

From 1982 to 1989, he was choreographer and director of the annual festival “Festival of Choreographic Art”, designed by him, in Ordzhonikidze . In 1983 he worked as the chief choreographer of the Kaft ensemble.

In 1986-1989 - the artistic director and chief choreographer of the folk dance ensemble “Alan”: 1987 - touring in Burma and Vietnam (the ensemble receives the title “Honorary Citizen of Ho Chi Minh”), 1988 - Touring in India and receiving the Order of Friendship award by the ensemble peoples (for the merits of the ensemble in the development of Soviet choreographic art). 1989 - touring in Italy and awarding the ensemble with the Republican Prize for them. K.L. Khetagurov.

From 1994 to 2011, he was Director of the Republican Center for Popular Arts at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

Varziev is the author of the idea of ​​folk dance festivals "Dawns of Vladikavkaz", "Dawns of Alania" and " Golden Duet ", director and honorary member of the jury of many festival and competitive events related to folk dance [* 3] .

He was buried on the territory of the memorial " Walk of Fame " in the city of Vladikavkaz.
