Content
Biography
Born in the family of Gregory Veniaminovich and Fani Lvovna Bogorovs. He received higher education at the biological department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University , graduated in 1926 . Even before the completion of training, he carried out scientific work on the Perseus expedition ship of the Moscow Scientific Institute (1924).
Since 1930, he worked at the All-Union Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography . In 1940 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic "Biological seasons in the plankton of the polar seas." In 1941, he held the position of deputy director for science at the Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Sciences . Also since 1946 he worked as a professor at the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University .
In 1961, at the Institute of Oceanology, he moved to the position of head of the laboratory of plankton . Since 1964, head of the Department of Hydrobiology, Moscow State University.
He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow.

Memory
- In honor of V. G. Bogorov, the underwater ridge at the bottom of the Sea of Japan is named ( Bogorov Ridge , coordinates: ), found on the 6th cruise of the NIS " Vityaz " (1951) [1] , and the research vessel of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (" Professor Bogorov ").
- In 1979, the USSR Post issued a postal envelope dedicated to the 75th anniversary of his birth.
Scientific achievements
He studied the plankton of the seas and oceans, the problems of the biological productivity of the ocean, the allocation of its geographical zones. Together with L. A. Zenkevich, he worked on the study of the biological structure of the ocean.
He was the head of the expeditions on the ship " Vityaz ".
