Rate Your Music (or RYM ) is a metadata database that allows users to rate and review music albums , EPs , singles , videos, bootlegs, and (since 2009) movies . This data is subsequently used to make recommendations to users and release charts . Weighted arithmetic mean is used to create such lists, regular participants who write reviews and more appreciate albums have a greater weight of votes. This is a wiki site, in the sense that users can add, edit and delete content, but most changes must be approved by moderators .

History
Rate Your Music was founded on December 24, 2000 by Hossein Sharifi. The version of the site “RYM 1.0” was used from the moment of its foundation till August 7, 2006, when the version “RYM 2.0” was introduced, which adds additional functions and also has an updated visual design.
