History
The city became most famous at the end of the XVII century, when Huseyn I , a native of these places, having converted to the Shiite faith at the Persian court, received the Cuban and Salyan Khanates as a sign of favor of the Shah, making Khudat his capital. This situation continued until 1747 , when, after the assassination of the Persian ruler Nadir Shah, the great-great-grandson of Huseyn I Huseyn Ali decided to achieve independence and moved the capital to Guba , whose location gave him advantages in terms of defense. In this regard, Khudat has lost its former meaning.
On April 27, 1920, the Khudat station was taken by Soviet troops, launched an offensive on Baku - the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. In the station area, there was only a short-lived artillery shoot-out between the four armored trains of the Red Army moving in Baku and the two Azerbaijani armored trains coming towards them [1] .
In 1943, the Khudat district of the Azerbaijan SSR was formed. In 1950, Khudat received city status. In December 1959, the Khudat district was abolished, with the transfer of the powers of the district center to the city of Khachmaz .
