In July, he took part in a tournament in Gstaad, where he lost in the first round. In late July, Wawrinka took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . This Olympics was the second in his career. In singles Stanislas already in the first round lost to future Olympic champion Andy Murray 3-6, 3-6. In the men's doubles, together with Federer, he is eliminated in the second round.
The post-Olympic segment of the year brought the semi-finals to Masters in Cincinnati , where Wawrinka outplayed David Ferrer , but lost to Roger Federer. Following Stanislas reached the fourth round at the US Open , where he was forced to play in the match against Novak Djokovic because of local health problems. In autumn, the Swiss played without much success, losing at each tournament to their first opponent from Top10.
- 2013-14
In the 2013 season, Wawrinka once again reached the peak of its capabilities: in January, he won his first doubles title in more than four years, winning with Benoit Per in a small tournament in Chennai . Then the Swiss played a good Australian Open , where although he again lost to Novak Djokovic , he only conceded defeat at the sixth hour of the game after the twenty-second game of the fifth game. Following Stan played several tournaments on the ground, having achieved a single finals in competitions in Buenos Aires , losing the title to David Ferrer . The March North American Masters tournaments were held without much success, one of the reasons for which were back pain, [4] which did not allow even the California tournament to be properly played.
A few weeks of rest allowed to solve all problems, and during the dirt season Wawrinka gradually returned to his best form: in Monte Carlo he managed to beat Andy Murray , then the Swiss won his first single title in more than two years - in Oeiras , where in he managed to win the final for the Argentinean failure at David Ferrer . Further, Wawrinka made his way to his first final in five years of the Masters series tournament: in Madrid he outplayed Jo-Wilfried Tsong and Tomas Berdykh , but lost to Rafael Nadal . The Spaniard ended the path of Stanislas and at the main start of this segment of the season - at Roland Garros , where their paths crossed in the quarterfinals.
Having shockly spent the unpaved segment of the season, the Swiss could not properly approach Wimbledon, and if he could reach the final at the warm-up tournament in the Netherlands, he lost at the start of the British Grand Slam tournament. The next summer segment of the season was extremely unsuccessful, but Wawrinka returned to his best form to the US Open and reached the semi-finals of this tournament, noting victories over Andy Murray and Tomas Berdykh and losing to Novak Djokovic in another protracted match. Autumn passed without much success, but previous achievements were enough to qualify for the final tournament , where, having won against Berdych and Ferrer, the Swiss reached the semifinals.
The start of the 2014 season brought Stanislas to a whole new level: by winning a dozen matches in a row in January, he was the first to become the strongest in the Grand Slam tournament, breaking the resistance of Djokovic, Berdych and Nadal on Australian courts (moreover, the Spaniard Wavrinka won the match for the first time in thirteen meetings in protest), and for the first time rise in the Top-3 ATP ranking . In the future, all, however, his results stabilized again at the level of the player at the end of the top ten, and only in April the Swiss could once again show their potential by winning the Masters in Monte Carlo , where compatriot Roger Federer was replayed in the final. The success on the courts of the Monte Carlo Country Club became unique against the backdrop of a not-so-successful dirt season - in the three remaining major tournaments - in Madrid , Rome and Paris, Wawrinka won only one match in total. The rest of the season was more successful: Stanislas achieved two quarter finals at the Grand Slam tournaments, selected for the Final tournament , where he was able to overcome the group stage. Wavrinka’s success also included the semifinals of the Indian Wells doubles competition that year, where he defeated two seeded couples with Roger Federer , as well as the Davis Cup win, on the way to which Federer and Wavrinka consecutively beat the national teams of Serbia , Kazakhstan , Italy and France .
- 2015
The start of the next year, 2015, also began with a successful series: Stanislas won secondary tournaments in Chennai and Rotterdam , and reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open , losing to Novak Djokovic in five sets. The rest of the hard season and the beginning of the soil series were not very successful, but by May Wavrinka again began to reach the peak of form: first having reached the semi-finals in Rome , simultaneously beating Rafael Nadal , and then winning Roland Garros , where he won in the final in four games over Novak Djokovic . For Djokovic, this defeat, in the end, was the only one at the Grand Slam tournaments in 2015: Novak won the remaining three tournaments of the series.
- 2016
The year began by winning the tournament in Chennai . At the Australian Open, he reached the fourth round, where he lost to Raonic . Then Wawrinka won two tournaments: in Dubai and in Geneva. At Roland Garros he reached the semifinals, where he lost to Andy Murray. At the Wimbledon tournament, he lost to Juan Martin del Potro in the second round. In September, Wawrinka won his third victory in Grand Slam tournaments, defeating Novak Djokovic in the US Open final with a score of 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 7-5 6-3. Since January 2014, Wavrinka has won 11 ATP tournaments in a row in a row, in which he participated, including three titles at Grand Slam tournaments. The series ended on September 25, 2016, when he lost in the St. Petersburg final . Petersburg Open to Alexander Zverev .
2017
At the beginning of the year at the Australian Open, he reached the semifinals, where in a stubborn five-set match he lost to Roger Federer.
In March, at a tournament in Indian Wells, he reached the finals, where he again met with Roger Federer, and again luck was on the side of Federer.
2019
At the Australian Open, Stan was unlucky with the draw, and he met in the first round with the seventh racket of the world Milos Raonic and lost to him in four sets. At the next tournament in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ) he reached the final, in which he was considered a favorite, but the Frenchman Gael Monfils opposed this, having beaten the Swiss in a three-set match.
In May 2019, Wawrinka participated in the Mutua Madrid Open , where he reached the quarterfinals, but lost to the “King of the Ground” Spaniard Rafael Nadal without a fight in two sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. In New York , Stan reached the quarter finals, defeating the first seeded Novak Djokovic on the way, but then lost in four sets to Russian Daniil Medvedev . At the ATP 250 tournament in Antwerp , the Swiss again reached the final, but lost to the eminent Briton Andy Murray in three sets. Although winning the first set 6: 3 entered with a break in the second and third set, respectively.
