Description
This original natural composition in the shape of a mushroom resembles in profile an owl or a Pekingese dog. In ancient times, the fortification and the lighthouse point of Lambas were located on the cape (torch, lamp - Greek).
Dimensions
Height - 50 meters, length - about 330 meters.
Geological structure
Composed of greenish porphyry , a stone of magmatic origin. Scientists estimate that during the geological formation of the Plaka massif ( 150 million years ago), the pressure of the molten magma was about one thousand kilograms per square centimeter . Large crystals of feldspar and dark minerals are scattered in a uniform dense mass.
The shape of the array can be judged by superbly pronounced extended reservoir cracks dividing it into powerful “shells” one meter thick and more.
In the northeastern part of the cape , which was almost completely freed from the compacted clays and sandstones of the Tauride series, and at the same time almost not affected by the destruction, there are “tapes” of black dense rock , resembling basalt . In cross-sections of stone "shells" it is clear that the "tapes" go deep into the array and wedge out. This is nothing more than a clayey material that is injected under pressure into gaping cracks in the massif when magma is introduced [2] .
