Kalfak ( Tat. Kalfak ) is an ancient female Tatar headdress , which was widely used in almost all groups of Tatars , including the one preserved in the female Tatar- kryashen costume.
History
Kalfak has become an integral part of the classic national Tatar costume . It was richly decorated with embroidery, embroidered with gold and silver threads , beads . At the beginning of the 20th century, among the Tatar women, to a greater extent among the intelligentsia and the townspeople, the European form of clothing spread, but the kalfak, despite the decrease in size, remained a traditional headdress that emphasized the nationality of the woman.
In Soviet times, kalfak ceased to be an everyday headdress and began to be worn only for the holidays or as an element of a national stage costume.
