Biography
Born in a poor family. He began his career in the shoe industry. He joined the revolutionary labor movement, participated in strikes and demonstrations.
Since 1935 - a member of the Union of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia, and since 1938 - a member of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia (UCC). In 1940 he was elected a member of the Central Committee of the UCC, in the same year - Secretary of the Party Committee of the city of Buyer.
1945 - 1949 - mayor of Zagreb .
1963 - 1967 - Chairman of the Executive Council of the Socialist Republic of Croatia .
1967 - 1969 - Chairman of the Union Executive Council of Yugoslavia.
1970 - 1980 - Chairman of the Council of the Union of Trade Unions of Yugoslavia.
1983 - 1984 - Member of the Presidium and Chairman of the Presidium of the SFRY .
1984 - 1986 - Secretary of the Central Committee of the Union of Communists of Croatia. He opened the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo .
Awards and titles
- People's Hero of Yugoslavia (1953).
- He was awarded the Order of the Hero of Socialist Labor .
