September in central Russia

September ( lat. Septem - seven) is the ninth month of the Gregorian calendar , one of the four Gregorian months with thirty days. September is the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere of the Earth and the beginning of spring in the southern .

The name received from lat. septem - seven since it was the seventh month of the Old Roman year, beginning before Caesar's reform in March . In ancient Russia, September was also originally the seventh, and in the Russian state from the 15th century to 1700 - the first month of the year [1] [2] .

The Pre-Slavs called the month September * vers (cf. Belorussian verasen ; Ukrainian ukrasen ; Polish. Wrzesień ), from the name of the heather plant ( * vers ), which blooms in the summer-autumn period [3] [4] [5] .

In the modern era, until September 16 according to the Gregorian calendar, the sun is in the constellation Leo , from September 16 - in the constellation Virgo [6] (according to other sources - September 17 [7] ).
