Initial Biography
Vasily Sergeevich Golovskoy was born on February 18, 1895 in Bogoroditsk now in the Tula region.
Military Service
World War I and Civil War
In 1915 he was drafted into the ranks of the Russian Imperial Army and sent to the Orenburg school of ensigns , after which in 1916 he was sent to the South-Western Front , where he was appointed to the post of company commander. In 1917 he was demobilized with the rank of second lieutenant .
In June 1918 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and sent to study at the 1st Tver cavalry courses, after which from November of the same year he fought in the 8th Army ( Southern Front ), being the platoon and squadron commander of the reserve cavalry shelf.
In November 1919 he was sent to study at the Higher Cavalry School in Petrograd , after which in December 1920 he was sent to the 91st Cavalry Regiment ( 16th Cavalry Division ), where he served as platoon commander and head of the regimental school.
In December 1921 he was appointed to the post of squadron commander in the 9th and then in the 11th Kamyshansk cavalry regiments ( 5th cavalry division named after M.F. Blinov ). From 1923 to 1924 he took part in the suppression of Basmachism in Eastern Bukhara .
Interwar
In June 1924, Golovskaya was appointed to the post of head of the regimental school of the Bikadorovsky cavalry regiment, in May 1927 - to the post of chief of staff, and then - to the post of head of the regimental school of the 25th cavalry regiment ( North Caucasian Military District ).
In 1930 he graduated from the Novocherkassk cavalry Advanced Training Courses for command personnel .
From January 1930, he served as chief of staff of the first 27th cavalry regiment, from June 1932 - chief of staff of the 2nd special separate cavalry division, and since March 1933 - chief of staff of the 1st cavalry regiment ( 1st cavalry division , OKDVA ). In January 1936 he was appointed commander of the 32nd Cavalry Regiment ( 22nd Cavalry Division ).
Since December 1940, he served as commander of the 5th Cavalry Division ( Kiev Military District ), but did not take up the post and in January 1941 was appointed a teacher of tactics at the Novocherkassk cavalry advanced training courses for command personnel.
World War II
In July 1941, Golovskaya was appointed commander of the 37th cavalry regiment as part of the 50th cavalry division , which fought heavy defensive battles in the Vitebsk direction. For differences in these battles he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .
In November 1941, he was appointed commander of the 79th Cavalry Division ( 5th Cavalry Corps , 37th Army ), which took part in the Rostov and Barvenkovo-Lozovo offensive operations .
In April 1942, Colonel Vasily Sergeyevich Golovskoy was appointed commander of the 30th Cavalry Division ( 4th Guards Cavalry Corps , 37th Army), which waged defensive battles in the Kuban , and then retreated towards Salsk , Voroshilovsk , Mozdok . Soon the division was included in the Northern Group of Forces of the Transcaucasian Front .
In September of that year he was appointed commander of a cavalry group, which included the 30th and 110th cavalry divisions . The group defended Kizlyar in the 44th Army band on the right wing of the front and periodically made successful raids on the enemy rear, for which Vasily Sergeyevich Golovskaya was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .
From January 1943 to October 1944, the 30th Cavalry Division under the command of Golovskiy took part in the North Caucasus , Krasnodar , Donbass , Bereznegovato-Snigirevskaya , Odessa and Debrecen offensive operations , as well as during the liberation of Stavropol , Bataysk , Taganrog , Odessa , Minsk , Baranavichy , Brest , Debrecen and Nyiregyhaz .
In November 1944, Major General Vasily Sergeyevich Golovskoy was appointed commander of the 4th Guards Cavalry Corps , which distinguished itself during the Bratislava-Brnovsk offensive operation , during which the cities of Talant and Trnava were liberated. Soon, the corps took part in the Budapest , Vienna and Prague offensive operations .
Post-War Career
In May 1945 he was sent to study at an accelerated course at the Higher Military Academy named after K.E. Voroshilov , after which in February 1946 he was appointed to the post of deputy commander of the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps , in May 1946 - to the post of deputy Head of the Higher Officer Cavalry School named after S. M. Budyonny , in February 1947 - to the post of deputy commander of the 1st Guards Rifle Corps , and in July 1950 - to the post of commander of the 19th Rifle Corps .
In December 1951 he was sent to study at higher academic courses at the Higher Military Academy named after K.E. Voroshilov, after which in October 1952 he was appointed to the post of commander of the 10th Rifle Corps .
In November 1955, Major General Vasily Sergeyevich Golovskoy left the reserve. He died on October 24, 1975 in Perm .
