Biography

Scherbyak was born in 1977 in Madrid , where at that time his father Walter Sr. , three-time Euroleague champion, played for Real Madrid [1] . After completing Walter’s career, the family moved to Long Island , where Wally attended Cold Spring Harbor High School. After graduating from school from 1995 to 1999, he played for the team at the University of Miami , showed high performance and in the last season was included in the second symbolic top five of the best students of the student championship.

In 1999, Wally was selected for the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves Club under number 6. From the very first season he became the main light forward of the team, was included in the national team of the season 1999–2000 season . The best season in the NBA for Scherbyak was 2001–2002 , when he played all 82 matches of the regular season, gaining an average of 18.7 points per game, significantly improved his three-point shot and received an invitation to the Western Conference team for the 2002 All-Star Game . After joining “Timberwolves” Latrell Spruell, Wally gave him a place in the top five.

On January 26, 2006, Shcherbyak, along with Michael Olovokandi , Dwayne Jones and the first-round pick option, was traded to Boston Celtics on Ricky Davis , Mark Blount , Marcus Banks , Justin Reed and two choices in the second round draft. In Boston, Wally played a little, largely due to a severe knee injury on which he had surgery in the off-season of 2006. In the second season, the Celtics Shcherbyak was tormented by injuries to both ankles.

On June 28, 2007 (on the night of the NBA draft), the Celtics exchanged Scherbyak along with Delonte West and Jeff Green for Ray Allen and Glen Davis at Seattle Supersonics . Within six months, Wally became part of a big deal again, this time he was sent to Cleveland Cavaliers with the same Delonte West, as well as Ben Wallace and Joe Smith from Chicago Bulls . In the regular season Shcherbyak was basically replaced by LeBron James from the bench, but in the playoffs he went out in all 13 games in the starting five on the spot of the attacking defender .

In the summer of 2009, Scherbyak ended his contract with Cleveland, and he became a free agent.

Personal life

July 1, 2000 Shcherbyak married Shannon Ward. The couple has three children: Annabella Rose (born February 25, 2003), Amberley Rosenna (born January 29, 2006) and Maximus Jack (born March 1, 2008) [2] .

Wally has a brother, Will, who is nine years younger than him, and Wendy's sister, who is thirteen years younger than him [3] .
