Born in 1386 in the village of Videlebye near Pskov in a family of ordinary Pskov villagers. Was given to parents for literacy. As the life narrates, before the parents decided to marry Eliazar, he, inclined to monastic life, went to the Snetogorsky monastery and took tonsure with the name Euphrosynus.

Around 1425, Euphrosinus retired to the banks of the Tolva River, where he built himself a cell . Gradually, monks began to gather around him, the monastic community of the future Spaso-Eleazarovsky monastery began to take shape. For monks, Euphrosynus wrote a monastic charter that did not contain a liturgical part, but aimed only at the general regulation of the monastery's life. In 1447, Euphrosynus built a church in honor of three saints (according to legend, they appeared to him and indicated the place for the construction of the church) and the Monk Onufrius the Great . A very active part in the arrangement of the desert was taken by associate Euphrosynos the shepherd Serapion [1] .
The disciples of St. Euphrosynus were:
- Joachim of Opoch , founder of the Opoch monastery of the Holy Prophet Elijah .
- Hilarion Gdovsky , founder of the Prince-Ozersky Pokrovsky monastery .
Euphrosynus died at the age of 95 on May 15, 1481 , before his death, he adopted the schema with his worldly name Eleazar. At the Makaryevsky Cathedral in 1549 he was canonized. An icon painted by Ignatius, a student of the Monk Euphrosynus, was placed over his tomb, by order of the Novgorod Archbishop Gennady , and his own testament was also placed. Later, the monastery was moved to a new place, the relics of Euphrosynus were laid in his catholicon under cover. After the closure of the Savior-Eleazarov Monastery in 1921-1923, the burial place of St. Euphrosynus was lost [2] .
