Kenji Maruyama ( Japanese 丸山 健 二 Maruyama Kenji , December 23, 1943 ) is a Japanese writer . For the short story “The Flow of Summer” ( 夏 の 流 れ ) in 1966, at the age of 23, he was awarded the Ryunosuke Akutagawa Prize [1] , becoming at that time the youngest author to be awarded this award. Later, the works of Maruyama were twice nominated for the Tanizaki Prize (in 1973 and 1976 ), as well as for the Kawabata Prize (in 1987 ), but he refused to be awarded, fundamentally avoiding contact with the literary establishment of Japan and preferring to be on the periphery. In 1984, according to the story “Heartbeat” ( Japanese と き め き に 死 す ), the director of the same name filmed the film Yoshimitsu Morita . The writer's works have been translated into English, German, Russian, Chinese and Korean.
