The population of Monaco is 37,613 people (2016). The country ranks first in the world in terms of population density. The able-bodied population makes up 62% of the total number of inhabitants. The country has a negative level of natural population growth (-3.38 people per 1000 inhabitants). However, taking into account immigration, the population growth rate is 0.44% (2004).
The female population is slightly larger than the male. The ratio of the number of men to the number of women is 0.91 (2004).
The national composition (2008) is dominated by: the French (28.24%); then follow the indigenous people - Monegasques (21.50%) and Italians (18.57%). The remaining 31.69% of residents are representatives of 125 nationalities. [one]
The official language is French ; English , Italian and Monegasian are also widely spoken.
90% of the population are Catholics . According to the constitution, Catholicism is the official religion; at the same time, freedom of religion is proclaimed.

According to the results of the 2008 census, 144 nationalities were identified among the population of the principality. The overwhelming majority of the population has citizenship of the countries of the European Union and European countries (92.19%).

The largest age group in the Principality includes persons aged 45 to 64
years, represents 29.35% of the population. the number of people aged 65 and over has been growing steadily since 1975. It can be noted that the proportion of women in the census has been decreasing regularly for more than twenty years. However, the majority of the population is still female.
