The 1st Chess Olympiad was held in London from July 18 to 29, 1927 with the participation of 16 countries. Teams that sent applications late were not allowed to the tournament, including teams from Poland , the USA and others. To attract the strongest chess players, the organizers did not distinguish between amateurs and professionals. The tournament was allocated £ 2,000. Parties were played in the English parliament hall Westminster Central Hall. A total of 480 games were played. Prizes for beauty were awarded to the games of E. Grünfeld - M. Euwe [1] , F. Yeits - L. Astalosh [2] .

It was impossible to determine the winners on the boards, as the teams were allowed any permutations. Everyone except the German team took advantage of this right.
At the closing ceremony, the captain of the Hungarian national team G. Maroci was awarded a prize - a gilded Cup established by Lord Hamilton-Russell , one of the founders of the famous Hastings Club, and gold medals to the participants. The Danes received silver medals, and the British won bronze medals.
