Finnish rock

Finnish rock ( Fin. Suomirock ) - a collective designation of rock music in Finland . Finnish rock groups were influenced by both Anglo - American rock music and Finnish hits ("Iskelma"), Routalanka and other traditional Finnish music genres. Finland is one of the world's “capitals” of heavy rock and metal, along with Sweden, Britain and Germany.

The first Finnish rock bands appeared in the 1960s . Their repertoire included mainly songs of Western rock groups ( The Beatles , Rolling Stones , etc.), translated into Finnish. However, starting in the 1970s, Finnish rock musicians began to compose their own songs.

In the early 1970s, the first Finnish bands appeared, singing in English and claiming international fame - Wigwam (playing progressive rock ) and Hurriganes ( rock and roll ), and a little later - Hanoi Rocks ( glam rock ). However, Finnish English-speaking groups did not succeed in expanding outside Finland.

Since the 1970s , Finnish-language rock and metal began to develop. His most prominent representatives are the groups Popeda , Eppu Normaali , Sielun Veljet , Leevi and the Leavings , singers Heikki Harma (Hector) , Rauli Somerioki , Tuomari Nurmio , Ismo Alanko and others. In the 1980s , Finnish punk rock was developed. It was then that Terveet Kädet became famous.

Since the 1990s, Finland has been one of the central places in rock music. Bands from Finland, especially HIM , Nightwish , Apocalyptica , The Rasmus and Lordi, have gained great fame in the world. HIM became the first Finnish group whose album ( Dark Light ) was certified gold disc by the American Association of Recording Companies [1] . Other notable Finnish rock scenes include Poets of the Fall , Sunrise Avenue , Amorphis , Children of Bodom , Ensiferum , Norther ,, Finntroll , The 69 Eyes , Ruoska , Turmion Kätilöt , Enter My Silence , Stratovarius , Sonata Arctica , Sentenced , Korpiklaani , Impaled Nazarene , The Giant Leap , Charon , Negative , Liekki , Kotiteollisuus , Viikate , Lyijykomppania , Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus , Mokoma , Stam1na , Apulanta , Teräsbetoni , Maj Karma , Verjyuuami , Maj Karma In 2006, the Finnish band Lordi won the Eurovision Song Contest .

Like in other Scandinavian countries, rock, and, in particular, metal in Finland is very popular, annual heavy rock festivals such as Tuska Open Air , Finnish Metal Expo , Lumous , Jalometalli , Provinssirock, Ruisrock , Ilosaarirock, Sauna Open Air are held here .
