Yarra ( eng. Yarra River ) - a river in the south of Victoria , Australia . Melbourne , the second largest city of the continent, was founded in the lower reaches of the river in 1835. During the gold rush in Victoria, the river, its banks and the hills around were the source of gold for numerous prospectors. For this reason, in many places the landscape has changed a lot. Nowadays, the river serves recreational purposes: on it are engaged in academic rowing , rowing, canoeing and swimming .
