History

The tournament was founded in 1990, it replaced the championship of Mestaruussar , which took place from 1930 to 1989. Prior to this, from 1908 to 1929, the champion was determined in matches for the Cup. In 1914 and 1943, the championship was not held due to the First and Second World Wars, respectively.
