A2 is a trunk road of international importance, passing in Central Asia in terms of mountainous and sandy-desert terrain through the territory of Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan . The road passes through the territory of Almaty , Zhambyl and South Kazakhstan regions of Kazakhstan, Chui oblast of Kyrgyzstan, Tashkent, Djizak, Samarkand, Surkhan-Daryinsky and a number of other districts of Uzbekistan [1] .

Route
It starts in Alma-Ata , goes west along the Trans-Ili Alatau ridge, crosses the Chu-Ili Mountains through the Kordai Pass , the Shu River. Then it crosses northern Kyrgyzstan through Bishkek and again goes through Kazakhstan ( Merke , Taraz , Shymkent ). From Shymkent heading south to Uzbekistan ( Tashkent , Jizzak , Samarkand , Termez ).
From middle Uzbekistan to Alma-Ata, the road coincides with the European route E-40. Or with the local index KB-4.
In the late 1990s, Kazakhstan laid a bypass road through its territory bypassing Kyrgyzstan from the north (from Merke to Shu – Kordai road) and now most of the cars go to Almaty along the Merke – Kordai highway, circling Bishkek and saving time and money on two customs procedures (at the entrance and exit from Kyrgyzstan).
Hazards
In winter, in the ice , for many years it was dangerous to pass through the Kordai Pass. In 2006, the road through the pass with the help of Turkish [ significance of fact? ] road construction firms have been remodeled, straightened and made safer.
Attractions
The highway, starting in the southern capital of Kazakhstan, Alma-Ata , passes through the capitals of the two countries: ( Bishkek and Tashkent ), as well as the regional cities of Taraz , Shymkent , Dzhizak and Samarkand , crosses the Shu (Chu), Talas , Syrdarya , Zeravshan rivers . The route is laid along the picturesque mountain ranges of the Tien Shan - Zailiysky Alatau , the Kirghiz range , the Talas Ala-Too , and also the Zeravshan range of the Pamir-Alay .
