Stanford Philosophical Encyclopedia

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a public philosophy internet encyclopedia supported by Stanford University . Each article is written and updated by a subject matter expert. The encyclopedia involved professors from 65 academic institutions around the world. In addition to online status, the encyclopedia supports the traditional academic approach used in most encyclopedias and academic journals, achieving quality through the use of professional authors and careful review of articles by a competent editorial board .

The encyclopedia was created in 1995 by Edward N. Zalt in order to provide a dynamic encyclopedia updated regularly, and thus not becoming obsolete similarly to printed encyclopedias. The creation of the encyclopedia was supported by funding from the National Humanitarian Fund and the National Science Foundation . The provision on the encyclopedia permits the presence of competing articles on one topic, allowing the display of conflicting views in the manner characteristic of a scientist.

For several parameters, such as a citation index, the encyclopedia is the most successful and authoritative resource on philosophy.
