Project 201 submarines

Project 201 submarines ( it. Klasse 201 ) - a series of German diesel-electric submarines . Project 201 submarines, designed in the late 1950s , became the first class of submarines built in Germany after the end of World War II and intended to perform coastal defense tasks. In total, 12 boats were planned to be built in the series, but as a result, only three were completed under the initial project and put into operation. To reduce the visibility, hull submarines of the project 201 were made of non-magnetic alloy, but from the very beginning of their operation revealed their susceptibility to corrosion , because of which the remaining 9 planned for the construction of boats were urgently modified and began to be designated as a project 205 . Submarines of the project 201 remained in service with the German Navy until 1971 , after which they were scrapped.
