Richard's Castle - Lionheart (Kiev)

“Richard’s Castle - Lionheart” is the poeticized name of the house number 15 on St. Andrew’s descent in Kiev - a monument of architecture of the XIX century, built in the style of British Gothic. It is named by Victor Nekrasov in honor of King Richard the Lionheart , the hero of Walter Scott ’s novel “ Aivengo ”. The house in the form of an old castle is set on the complex terrain of the former chronicle mountain of Vozdalnitsy just below St. Andrew's Church . The monumental facades are decorated with architectural elements of the castle and fortress structures - various towers, spiers, jagged tops of walls, etc. A high tower with fortress features rises to the left side of the house.
