Square mile (abbreviated sq. Mile , mile² ; English square mile , abbreviated sq mi , mi² ) is a unit of measurement of area derived from a mile . Since the base unit with the name “mile” existed and exists in various systems of measures and is defined differently ( see Mile ), the indication of the unit of measure “square mile” also needs to be clarified.
In the English system of measures - imperial (British) and American - one square mile is equal to the area of a square with a side of 1609.344 m (according to the standard adopted in 1959) [1] . In other units, sq. mile is equal
