John Garstang ( born John Garstang ; May 5, 1876 - September 12, 1956 , Beirut ) - English archaeologist , professor , specialist in Middle Eastern archeology. Among his main excavations are Sakchagezu (1908), Jericho (1930-1936) and Mersin (1936-1939). He graduated from the Oxford College of Jesus , led archaeological work in Asia Minor , Ethiopia , Palestine . He was the director of the British Archaeological School in Jerusalem , (1920-1926), in 1948 founded the British Archaeological Institute in Ankara [4] , and taught archeology at the University of Liverpool .
