Story
The action takes place in New Orleans. Disc jockey Zack ( Tom Waits ) does not tolerate any leadership and once again having lost his job at the radio station and parting with his girlfriend ( Ellen Barkin ), agrees to overtake the stolen car in order to earn some money. However, instead of making quick money, Zack ends up in prison no less quickly. Jack ( John Lurie ) - businessman, engaged in pimping , ends up in the same cell with Zach. Soon, a strange Italian Bob ( Roberto Benigni ), convicted of manslaughter , who knows only a few phrases in English and loves American films, is seated with them. Zack and Jack are constantly in conflict, only Bob supports communication in the camera. In the end, the trio of losers decides to escape, which they succeed. To escape from the police, they leave Louisiana, crossing the forest and floating on the river.
Having escaped from the forest, the fugitives go into a small restaurant for a snack. There, Bob meets Nicoletta ( Nicoletta Braschi ), whom he immediately falls in love with and decides to stay with her.
Two other heroes, Zach and Jack, after a night of rest disperse at the first intersection.
The plot of this wonderful parable is an ideal illustration of almost all the paintings of Jarmusch. Met, talked and parted, so that they would never see each other again.
