Ancobar is a city in central Ethiopia , the former capital of the ancient state of Sheva . It is located in the Samien Sheva zone, in the Amhara region, 40 km east of Debre Birkhan , at an altitude of 2462 m above sea level [1] .

According to the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia, in 2005, 2288 residents lived in the city: 1114 men and 1174 women [2] . Despite the status of the former capital, Ancober is a very provincial city, the second largest in the Ancober world. Here lies the Kidus Mikael church, built by Sahle Selassie.
