Pushkin Studies (less often Pushkin studies ; at the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries, also Pushkinism , Pushkinism ) was a section of literary studies and literary history dedicated to the works and biography of A.S. Pushkin . The researchers of Pushkin’s life and work are called Pushkin scholars ( Pushkin scholars ).

Start Pushkinistics
The foundations of the scientific Pushkin studies were laid by P. V. Annenkov , the author of the first extensive biography and compiler of the first critically prepared collection of Pushkin’s works, and P. I. Bartenev , who collected a large number of contemporaries about the poet. In the 1880–1900s, new biographies of Pushkin ( V. Ya. Stoyunin , A. I. Nezelenov , V. V. Sipovsky , A. N. Shimanovsky ) appeared, Pushkin’s manuscripts were explored, new editions of his writings were published ( V. E Yakushkin , P. O. Morozov , V. I. Saitov , I. A. Shlyapkin ).
Development of Pushkin Studies in the 20th Century
Fundamental events for the Russian Pushkin scholarship occur in the 1900s, when the publication Pushkin and His Contemporaries (1903), the Pushkin House of the Academy of Sciences (1905) appeared, after acquiring state ownership of the poet’s preserved personal library (1906), 1908 Pushkin Seminary of S. A. Vengerov functions in Petersburg. At this time such researchers as B. L. Modzalevsky , P. E. Shchegolev , N. O. Lerner , M. A. Tsyavlovsky are advancing . Such prominent Pushkin scholars of the 1890s were born at the Hungarian seminary, such as Yu. N. Tynyanov , S. M. Bondy , N. V. Izmailov , Yu. G. Oksman , V. M. Zhirmunsky .
A significant role in the scientific Pushkin studies was played by the Russian poets of the Silver Age - V. Ya. Bryusov , V. F. Khodasevich , A. A. Akhmatova .
Soviet period
In the 1920s, the generation of the founders of the classical Soviet Pushkin studies was put forward - B.V. Tomashevsky , V.V. Vinogradov , G. O. Vinokur , D. D. Blagoi . They paid special attention to the “comparative-historical” study of Pushkin, while Russian formalism had a great influence on the Pushkin studies of this period. In the 1930-1950s, the Soviet Pushkin studies were significantly sociologized and politicized according to the conditions of the time, or bypassed Pushkin’s ideology altogether, but gave a number of fundamental philological achievements (in the field of textology , studying Pushkin’s style, compiling a dictionary of Pushkin’s language ). The main achievement of the period was the academic jubilee Complete Works of Pushkin (1937–1949), published without commentary (except textual) by Stalin’s personal order.
A new appeal to the questions of poetics, ideology and philosophy of Pushkin gave important results in the 1960-1980s ( L. Ya. Ginzburg , Yu. M. Lotman , V. E. E. Vatsuro, and others.)
Pushkin Studies Abroad
Pushkin scholarship abroad begins soon after the poet’s death, with extensive obituaries-biographies of F. A. Leuve-Weimar, KA Farngagen von Enze, Adam Mickiewicz , Prosper Merimee (some of them knew Pushkin personally). A large biography of Pushkin issued a Frenchman Aime Oman (1911). Slavicists such as the Polish scholar Vaclav Lednitsky , the Italian Ettore Lo Gatto , the Frenchman Andre Mason , the Americans Walter Vickery and Thomas Shaw , the Englishman John Bailey made a notable contribution to the Pushkinist of the 20th century. Of the Russian émigrés, it is necessary to mention the well-known literary critics of Vsevolod Sechkarev and Dmitry Chizhevsky , Dmitry Svyatopolk-Mirsky ; who became the French writer Lev Tarasov ( Henri Troyat ), author of Pushkin’s extensive biography; in his American period, Pushkin studies were much studied by Vladimir Nabokov , who taught at universities and published a lengthy commentary on “Eugene Onegin”; significant Pushkinistika Roman Jacobson and his American students. The materials related to Pushkin and his family (archives of Dantes, Frizengof, Turgenev, materials of embassies and diplomatic missions, etc.) were also subjected to research.
Music Pushkinist
The beginning of musicological Pushkin studies was laid by the works of M. M. Ivanov “Pushkin in Music” (St. Petersburg, 1899) and S. K. Bulich “Pushkin and Russian Music” (St. Petersburg, 1900). Subsequently, all new publications appeared; the most important were the books: I. Eiges “Music in the life and work of Pushkin” (1937), V. Yakovlev “Pushkin and music” (1949), A. Glumov “The Musical World of Pushkin” (1950). A. Zucker. Pushkin's dramaturgy in the Russian opera classics (2010).
Philosophical Pushkin
Along with the scientific Pushkin studies a significant role in the history of Russian thought has an artistic and philosophical understanding of the personality of Pushkin and his work in the context of Russian culture, the construction of a kind of "Pushkin myth" (or even several "myths", depending on the position of the author). He began during the life of Pushkin N. V. Gogol in 1832, then VF Odoyevsky , A. A. Grigoriev , F. M. Dostoevsky , D. S. Merezhkovsky , V. S. S. spoke with his essays on Pushkin . Solovyov , M. O. Gershenzon , S. L. Frank , I. A. Il'in , G. P. Fedotov, and others.
