Dessé ( amh . ) Is a city and warred in Ethiopia , in the Amhara region. The Addis Ababa - Asmara highway passes through the city.

General Information
The economy and social life in the city are quite developed. In 1920, one of the first post offices in Ethiopia appeared here. In 1954, a telephone station was commissioned, and in 1963 the city was completely electrified, thanks to a power station built near Kombolchi , in which about 110,000 birrs were invested [1] .
The city has a large museum and airport.
The area of the city is 15.08 sq. Km.
Geographical position
Desse is located on the northeastern tip of the Ethiopian Highlands , at an altitude of 2,423 meters above sea level [2] .

Population
According to the Central Statistical Agency , the population of Desse for 2007 is 151,174 people, of which 72,932 are men and 78,242 are women. 58.62% of the population are Muslim, 39.92% are adherents of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and 1.15% are Protestants [3] .
According to the 1994 census, the city’s population numbered 97,314 people, of which 45,337 men and 51,977 women. The ethnic composition for that period was as follows: Amhara (92.83%) and Tigers (4.49%); the remaining 2.68% were from other nations. 94.89% of the population called Amharic as their mother tongue; 3.79% is the Tigrinya language and the remaining 0.67% is other languages. 61% of the population were adherents of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and 39% professed Islam [4] . In 2012, the population of Dess was 279,423 people.
