Ethiopia first participated in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . Ethiopia’s Olympic Committee sent one skier, Robel Teklemariam , to participate in two disciplines: the 15 km classic and the 50 km free-style mass start. However, he was able to participate only in the 15 km race, where he took 83rd place, ahead of 13 athletes. Teklemariam learned to ski in the USA , where he attended a special school.
