Brown forest ant [1] ( lat. Formica fusca ) is a type of medium-sized land ant of the genus Formica ( Formica ) from the formicina subfamily ( Formicinae ). Included in the Red Book of the Chelyabinsk region [2] .

SpreadPalaearctic. It is found everywhere from Portugal to Japan , and from Italy to Fennoscandia.
DescriptionThis is the most common forest species of gray-black ants (contrary to the established name). Working individuals have a length of 4.5 to 7.5 mm, the uterus is about 1 cm. Nests in the soil, under stones, may have a small earthen mound. Small families. Uterus independently establish a new colony. Claviger testaceus , Astilbus caniculatus [3] were found in anthills.
ClassificationThis species belongs to the subgenera Serviformica , which includes the most primitive members of the genus Formica .
