Kazakh-German University (KNU) ( Kazakh. Kazakhstan-Nemis Universitet (ҚNU) , German die Deutsch-Kasachische Universität (DKU) ) is a higher educational institution in Almaty . It is the only German university in Kazakhstan and Central Asia .

History
The university was founded in 1999 on a private initiative with the aim of training specialists according to the German standard. In 2004, he passed the certification of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan , certification by the German Academic Exchange Service - confirmation of the high quality of education at KNU. In the same year, a special permission was issued from the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan to study under the German curriculum [1] .
In 2007, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, which provides for intensive support of the university from both countries. In the 2007-2008 academic year, 20 freshmen began training in innovative specialties [1] .
In 2008 , during a visit to KNU by the Federal President of Germany, Horst Köhler, an agreement was signed on close cooperation between Germany and Kazakhstan to improve the infrastructure of KNU. In addition, agreements were reached on cooperation with the Mittweed High School, the Schmalkalden High School and the Wildau High School on the mutual recognition of exam results and the related opportunity for excellent students to receive bachelor's degrees in Germany and Kazakhstan. Already in 2012 , the university released the first graduates of the Double Diploma program, which were trained in Germany.
In 2009 and 2014 , KNU passed the re-certification of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2014 , the university was accredited by the Agency IQAA, and in 2015 - by the Institute of Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance ACQUIN (Germany).
