The novels "Attila" and "The Fall of the Empire" narrate about the formation of Gothic (Germanic) tribes during the great migration of peoples. The novel “Attila” tells of the decline of Hunnic rule in Europe and the death of the Hunish king Attila in the arms of the girl Ildiho (daughter of King Vizigast), “The fall of the empire” about the decline of the Ostrogothic empire after the death of Theodoric the Great. One of the most famous works - the historical epic “The Battle of Rome” - was repeatedly filmed , based on his motives, the opera of Xaver Sharvenka's “Matasvinta” ( 1894 ) was created.
Dan's historical works, which were influenced by neo-romanticism , were used by the ideologists of German National Socialism for propaganda purposes.
