Career
McQuey was born in Glasgow and began his career at Celtic , from which in 1892 he transferred to the newly created Liverpool , becoming one of the 13 players whom John Macken and his partner as manager of Liverpool , William Barclay, invited from Hoops "into the new team. Although on the field, Joe served as a defender, he often connected to the attacks. Joe took part in the first official match of Liverpool against Hyer Walton, which took place on September 3, 1892 as part of the Lancashire League .
