New Registration Marks (since 2001)
In Czech car numbers, 7 characters are used (numbers and letters without diacritics, with the exception of G , O , Q , which could be confused with C and the number 0 , as well as the letters W ). This allows you to have a total of 20,900,118,400 combinations.
The first letter of the left digit indicates the edge at which the vehicle is registered. Starting January 1, 2015, it is not necessary to change the license plates when re-registering a vehicle in another region.
At the beginning of 2009, in Prague, they began to issue license plates in the new format 1AA: xxxx - 9AZ: xxxxx , as the ranges of numbers 1A1: xxxx - 9A9: xxxxx were already exhausted. Later, a new format was introduced in Central Bohemian ( 1SA: xxxx - 9SZ: xxxx ), South Moravian ( 1BA: xxxx - 9BZ: xxxx ) and Moravian-Silesian ( 1TA: xxxx - 9TZ: xxxx ) regions.
From January 2016, it is possible to manufacture signs to order. Any combination of letters and numbers with a total length of 8 characters is available, provided that at least one digit is available. Motorcycle numbers contain up to 7 characters. The text should not contain offensive and obscene words, the names of government agencies, as well as the letters G, O, Q and W (similar to standard license plates).

- black font - regular number
- blue font - on the car of diplomatic and consular officials
- green font - on a car that has not been approved for road use
- V - "veteran", does not satisfy the conditions for functioning
- R - sports car
- The letter of the region is a dealer car designed for transportation as needed.
On license plates, there are also two places for sticker stamps - about passing the maintenance (red) and measuring emissions (green). The license plate with stamps must be mounted on the rear bumper.
Old Registration Marks
Czechoslovak license plates continued to be issued until 2001.
From 2001 to 2004 (before the Czech Republic joined the EU ), modern format numbers without state symbols on the left were issued.
