Career
Born in Renton ( West Dunbartonshire ), McBride began his career at the local clubs Renton Wanderers and Renton, until in 1892 John McKenn and his partner as Liverpool manager William Barclay invited James to the newly created Merseyside club. McBride made his club debut in Liverpool’s first ever match - a friendly match against Rotterham Town on September 1, 1892 , which Liverpool won with a score of 7: 1, and two days later played in the first for the Reds [ 1] official match - on September 3, in the framework of the meeting in the Lancashire League, his team beat “Heyer Walton” 8-0, while James himself was marked with a goal in this game. Following the campaign, Liverpool won the right to enter the Second Division of the Football League .
McBride had 24 of 28 matches for the club next season, during which the team, having never been defeated, got a ticket to the First Division . To do this, she had to beat the club in the transition match, which took the last place in the elite division. The match against Newton Heat (since 1902 this team has been called Manchester United ) ended with a 2-0 victory for Liverpool, and the McBride team began the next season already in the First Division.
James played for Liverpool in only five games in the First Division, after which he moved to Manchester City , where he spent the next three seasons. McBride ended his career at Ashton North End in 1898 .
Achievements
- The champion of the Second Division (1894)

Notes
- ↑ Strictly speaking, at that time, the players of Liverpool could not be called “red”, since the team uniform still had the colors that Everton had - blue and white.
