Life and career
Patricia Wettig, one of the three daughters of Florence and Ulifford Neil Wettig, a university basketball coach [1] , was born December 4, 1951 in Cincinnati , Ohio . Her childhood passed in the city of Grove City in Pennsylvania . She studied drama at Temple University in Philadelphia , and in 1974 graduated from Wesleyan University in Ohio .
Her acting internship took place at the Neighborhood Theater, where for some time she was Shirley McLain's personal dresser. In 1980-1981, Wettig was a member of the New York Theater Troupe, with whom she participated in various productions of theaters in New York . In one of these plays, she met her future husband, actor Ken Olin , whom she married in 1982. From Olin, Wettig gave birth to two children, Clifford's son (born 1983) and daughter Roxy (born 1986) [2] .
Since the mid-1980s, Wettig has appeared in many television series. The most successful were her roles in St. Elswer and Thirty-Something , the role of Nancy Weston in which brought her three Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe figurine [3] . The role of cancer patient Nancy Weston attracted significant attention of critics, and the series itself, as a result of this, was included in the lists of the best programs in the history of television [4] [5] .
In 1991, after success on television, Wattig made her debut on the big screen in the thriller “ Guilty on Suspicion ” with Robert De Niro , after which she starred with Billy Crystal in the commercially successful comedy “ City Dudes ” [2] . Wettig also played a number of major roles in television films, such as “Take My Life Back: The Story of Nancy Siegenmeyer,” “ Parallel Lives ,” “ Langoliers, ” based on the work of Stephen King , and “ Nothing but the Truth ” [2] . She also played a major role in the short-lived 1995 series The Courthouse.
In the late nineties, Patricia Wettig took a break in her acting career and entered Smith College , which in 2001 she graduated with a master's degree in drama [2] . In 2002-2004, she played the role of a CIA psychotherapist in the television series " Spy ." She also became the performer of the role of Vice President, and then US President Caroline Reynolds in the first two seasons of the series “ Escape ” [2] .
In 2006, Patricia Wettig was invited to the role of Holly Harper, the former actress and mistress of the deceased husband, Nora Walker ( Sally Field ) in the series Brothers and Sisters . Her husband and daughter Roxy Olin also appeared on the show, and Ken Olin did play the longtime boyfriend of the heroine Wettig. She starred in the series until 2011, and left him in January, in the middle of the fifth and final season [6] .
