Nieuw-Nickerie [1] ( Dutch: Nieuw-Nickerie , MFA : [ˈniu̯ niˈkeːri] ) is a city in Suriname , the administrative center of Nikkeri County. It has a population of 13,000 people [2] and occupies the third position in the list of the largest cities in the country (after Paramaribo and Lelidorpa ).

It is located at the mouth of the Nikkeri River on the Atlantic coast, opposite the mouth of the Corantein River and the Guyanese city of Corriverton , with which it is connected by ferry .
The main crops grown are bananas and rice . The city has a market and several hotels, including Hotel Ameerali, Hotel de President, Hotel Tropical, Hotel de Vesting and Residence Inn.
