Biography

Juliette was born on February 7, 1927 in the city of Montpellier in southern France . Her father was a native of Corsica , her mother was French. The upbringing of little Juliette was done by the mother's parents. During the Second World War, Juliette, following the example of her mother, entered the Resistance and was even arrested, but avoided expulsion due to her young age. In 1946, Juliette moved to Paris after her mother left France and went to Indochina with the sailors of the Navy.

Soon, Juliette became one of the stars of post-war France, embodying in his songs the disappointment and poverty of the French intelligentsia following the Second World War. Her image of that time consisted of a black outfit and black long flowing hair.

Greco often visited various cafes of San Germain, where she revolved in the political and philosophical circles of the local bohemia. There she met Miles Davis and Jean Cocteau ; the latter even offered her a small role in his film " Orpheus " in 1949 . Hollywood producer and director Darryl F. Zanuk often invited her to his films in the 1960s and 1970s .

Greco was married three times. Her second husband was the French actor Michel Piccoli , with whom she lived from 1966 to 1977 . In 1988, she married the pianist and her accompanist Gerard Jouannest (born May 2, 1933), whom she married until his death on May 16, 2018.
