Chonchi ( Spanish: Chonchi ) is a village in Chile . The administrative center of the eponymous commune . The population is 4,588 people ( 2002 ). The village and commune is part of the province of Chiloe and the region of Los Lagos .

Location
The village is located on the island of Chiloe , 146 km south-west of the administrative center of the region of Puerto Montt and 17 km south of the administrative center of the province of Castro .
The commune borders:
- in the north - with the commune of Castro
- in the east - with the commune of Pukeldon
- in the southeast - with the commune of Kaylen
- in the south - with the commune of Caelon
In the west of the commune is the Pacific Ocean .
Demographics
According to information collected during the census by the National Institute of Statistics, the population of the commune is 14049 people, of which 7407 are men and 6642 are women.
The population of the commune is 1.77% of the total population of the Los Lagos region . 62.92% belong to the rural population and 37.08% to the urban population.
