Ancud ( Spanish: Ancud ) is a city and seaport in Chile . The administrative center of the eponymous commune . The population is 27,292 people ( 2002 ). The city and commune is part of the province of Chiloe and the region of Los Lagos .

The territory of the commune is 1752.4 km². The population is 41,661 inhabitants (2007). The population density is 23.77 people / km².
The city was founded in 1768.
Location
The city is located on the island of Chiloe , 85 km southwest of the administrative center of the region of Puerto Montt and 59 km north of the administrative center of the province of Castro .
The commune borders:
- in the east - with the Kemchi commune
- in the south - with the commune of Dalcaue
In the north and west of the commune is the Pacific Ocean .
Demographics
According to information collected during the census by the National Institute of Statistics, the population of the commune is 41,661 people, of which 20,510 are men and 21,151 are women.
The population of the commune is 5.24% of the total population of the Los Lagos region . 33.18% relate to the rural population and 66.82% to the urban population.
