Location
The village is located 113 km north-west of the administrative center of the region of Puerto Montt and 22 km north-east of the administrative center of the province of Osorno .
The commune borders:
- in the north - with the commune of La Union
- in the northeast - with the commune of San Pablo
- in the east - with the municipality of Osorno
- in the south - with the commune of Rio Negro
In the west of the commune is the Pacific Ocean .

According to information collected by the National Institute of Statistics during the census, the population of the commune is 8,318, of which 4,485 are men and 3,833 are women.
The population of the commune is 1.05% of the total population of the Los Lagos region. 88.37% refers to the rural population and 11.63% to the urban population.
