Biography
Born November 3, 1921 in the mining village of Ehrenfeld ( Pennsylvania ), was the eleventh of fifteen children in a mining family. His father Walter Buchinsky (1888-1932), a native of the town of Druskeniki of the Grodno province , came from sticky - Polish-Lithuanian Tatars [4] and emigrated to the United States with his parents - Frank and Elizabeth Buchinsky. His mother Mary Buchinski (nee Walinsky, 1890-1968) was born in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania , into the family of Thomas Valinsky and Anna Batsavage, emigrants from the Russian Empire (modern Lithuania ).
In 1943 he was drafted into the US armed forces and served in aviation as a gunner on the B-29 .
After the Second World War, he decided to become an actor, believing that this would provide him with decent earnings. He graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse ( Pasadena city). He changed several professions, was a miner, a handyman; starred in small roles on TV. Since 1950, he began working in the cinema, and in the first 12 films - under his real name.
During the McCarthy “witch hunt” he replaced the Slavic-sounding name Buchinsky with the Anglo-Saxon Bronson .
He was married to actress Jill Ireland , who died in May 1990.
He died on August 30, 2003 of pneumonia at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he underwent treatment for several weeks.
