Geography
The Bodaibo district, with an area of 92 thousand square kilometers, is located on the Vitimo-Patom Highlands , in the northeastern part of the region, in an area equivalent to the regions of the Far North . The climate is sharply continental: in winter up to −55 ºС, in summer up to +40 ºС [6] . The peripheral-geographical location of the area predetermined the low transport development of the territory.
The Bodaibo district borders on the north and northeast with the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) , in the south and southeast - with the Republic of Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory , in the west - with the Mama-Chui district of the Irkutsk region.
History
Bodaibo district was founded in 1926 .
By decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee No. 40 of June 28, 1926 "On the division of the territories of the Irkutsk province into districts and districts." the history of the Bodaibo district began.
In the 1950s, as part of the decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of January 17, 1955, "On the Recruitment of Workers in the People's Republic of China for Participation in Communist Construction and Labor Training in the USSR," Chinese workers worked at enterprises and construction sites in the region [7] .

Economics
Bodaibo district is industrial: the share of industry in the volume of sales in the region as a whole is 86%. However, the industry of the Bodaibo region is represented by gold mining enterprises, whose work is seasonal.
The food industry is represented by two municipal enterprises: MUP Myasnoy Dvor and RMUKP Pishchekombinat.
Electricity is supplied by the Mamakan Hydroelectric Power Station .
The total area of agricultural land in the Bodaibo region is 1196 hectares, on which 5 farms and 11 subsidiary farms of industrial enterprises operate.
Since the discovery of gold in the region for more than 150 years, its extraction exclusively serves as the basis for the life of the region. At the same time, one of the oldest gold mining centers in Russia differs from other gold-mining regions of the country in its rare stability of precious metal mining, which indicates the uniqueness of the Lensky gold-bearing region [17] .
Resources
Mineral resources are mainly made up of gold from the Leno-Vitim gold-bearing province, where almost 95% of the placer and ore gold of the region are concentrated. The bulk of gold production is in alluvial deposits. The largest and most technically prepared ore deposit is Sukholozhskoye, but its ores are poor. In addition to Sukholozhsky, Verninsky, Zapadnoye, Dogaldynskoye, Caucasus, Mukodek (Mamsko-Chuisky district), Nevskoye, Pervenets, Uryakh (?), Chertovo Koryto are prepared for industrial development.
In addition, the region is distinguished by the richness of various mineral raw materials for the modern building industry: expanded clay raw materials, limestone , crushed stone , sand and sand and gravel, low-melting clay. The region has the only charoite deposit in the world. In the Marakan river valley, a deposit of very pure fine-grained quartz has been established (such quartz is mined only in the Urals by coal mining at Kyshtym GOK).
The value of the indicator of water resources - the total average annual river flow - is estimated at 133.9 km³ / year, the vast majority of which is concentrated in the main waterways of the region - the Lena and Vitim rivers. The water intake is 30.1 million m³, which is only 0.17% of the sustainable flow. Hydroenergy within the region is estimated at 40.2 billion kWh . The main shipping value is Vitim.
The level of forest resources in the region is low (actual wood harvesting is 110 thousand m³ in conditions of inaccessible mid-mountain taiga ). The area of hunting lands is 8659 thousand hectares, including the Vitim Reserve - 1161 thousand hectares.
In recent years, despite the increase in gold mining in the region, there has been a steady tendency for a decrease in the region's population [18] .
