History
The bishopric with its center in Halberstadt was formed by Charlemagne for missionary work in the lands of the Saxons and Slavic Slavs. In 968 , with the formation of the Magdeburg Archbishopric, the eastern part of the bishopric passed to the latter. In 1540, the bishopric of Halberstadt became Lutheran. In 1648, the bishopric was secularized into a principality and given as compensation for Forward Pomerania to Friedrich-Wilhelm of Brandenburg .
