Heads of the Foreign Intelligence Service (modern period, since December 18, 1991 )
The Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation is appointed and dismissed on the basis of Decrees of the President of the Russian Federation [1] .
The director of the Foreign Intelligence Service - in the rank of a federal minister - is at the head of the Federal Service , which is directly managed by the President of the Russian Federation . [2]
The Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service is a permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation (ex officio).
The post of Director of the SVR of Russia corresponds to the military rank of army general , however, the Director of the SVR may not have the status of a soldier.
The Director of the SVR of Russia may be subject to the protection of the FSO upon the proposal of the President of the Russian Federation.
He has the right to travel in a company car with special registration numbers .
Acting Director of SVR
Sergey Evgenievich Naryshkin , the former Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, was appointed to the post of director of the Foreign Intelligence Service by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of September 22, 2016 from October 5, 2016.
Former SVR Directors
Mikhail Efimovich Fradkov , former Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation , was appointed to the post of Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of October 9, 2007 No. 1349 [3] . Dismissed from October 5, 2016.
Sergey Nikolaevich Lebedev . Army General Appointed by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 20, 2000 No. 921 [4] . He was dismissed due to the fact that on October 5, 2007 he was appointed to the post of Executive Secretary of the CIS .
Vyacheslav Ivanovich Trubnikov . Army General. Appointed January 10, 1996 . Acting Director since March 30, 2000. Dismissed on May 21, 2000 due to the appointment of the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Since July 2004 - Ambassador of the Russian Federation to India [5] .
Evgeni Maksimovich Primakov . Appointed by Decree of President Yeltsin of December 26, 1991 No. 316 [6] (before that - Head of the PSU of the KGB of the USSR since September 30, 1991; director of the Central Soviet Socialist Republic of the USSR since November 6, 1991). E. M. Primakov was the civilian director of the SVR. He was dismissed on January 9, 1996 due to the appointment of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
