Biography

The band began playing black metal in the spirit of Darkthrone . Dawson and Totman took on the stage names “Behemoth” and “Heimdall”, and also began to use the attributes of the genre, such as corpse paint and satanic / demonic images and lyrics. A year later, keyboardist Magus and drummer Mark Hamill of the avant-garde rock band Head Like a Hole joined the band. In this composition, the group recorded the first Prepare For War album, after which Magus left Demoniac.

The band's next album, Stormblade, appeared in 1996. The features of this album was more melodic and catchy music, as well as tracks called controversial: «Hatred is Purity» and «Niggerslut». After this release, the band signed a contract with the French label Osmose Productions and took part in the Western Europe tour “World Domination Tour” along with Dark Tranquillity , Enslaved and others. After that, Dawson and Totman decided to stay in England and Hamill left the composition.

In July 1998, guitarist German Lee ( Herman Li , originally from Hong Kong ) joined the group, and in October, drummer Matej Setinc. The group begins to develop the style of high-speed melodic power metal, also using the attributes and ideology of black metal. In January 1999, Demoniac went to the studio with the producer of the band Cradle of Filth Mags ( Mags ) to record the album The Fire and the Wind . The original cover was a black and white photograph of one of the group members during drunken sex and was subsequently banned. The final version was severely censored, although the image remained the same.

For some time, Dawson played bass on all the records of the group and it was decided to find a permanent bass player for live performances. In the end, Diccon Harper joined the band, coming from the South African children's metal band Voice of Destruction. However, before the end of the year, the group broke up. All members except Dawson formed the DragonHeart group, later known as DragonForce . Dawson was involved in the recording of one of the DragonForce Inhuman Rampage albums.
