Yuri Gerasimovich Ilyenko ( Ukrainian Yuriy Gerasimovich IllІnko ; 1936 - 2010 ) - Soviet and Ukrainian film director, cameraman, screenwriter and politician. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR ( 1987 ).

Biography

Born on May 9 (according to other sources - July 18 ), 1936 in Cherkasy . He spent the years of World War II with his family in evacuation in Siberia (his father was at the front). In 1960 he graduated from VGIK (supervisors - B.I. Volchek , S.P. Urusevsky ). He made his debut as a cameraman in the film by A. A. Segel “Farewell to the Pigeons” (1960). He worked at the Yalta film studio, since 1963 at the A.P. Dovzhenko film studio in Kiev . Ilyenko brought world fame cameraman work in the film S. I. Parajanov " Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors " (1964).

The directorial works of Ilyenko belong to the school of Ukrainian poetic cinema ( L. M. Osyka and others). They are awarded at international film festivals.

Appeared in several films as an actor (" Newton Street, Building 1 ", 1963). He was also exhibited as an artist.

Member of the CPSU since 1973 . During the independence of Ukraine, he took an active political position, professed the ideas of modern Ukrainian nationalism , propagating them in his literary and artistic works and journalism [2] [3] [4] . In the last years of his life, he was a member of the political council of the All-Ukrainian association “Freedom” .

He died on June 15, 2010 in the village of Prokhorovka ( Kanevsky district , Cherkasy region , Ukraine ). Buried there.

Brothers - Vadim Gerasimovich Ilyenko , cameraman, and Mikhail Gerasimovich Ilyenko , director.

Wife - Lyudmila Filippovna Efimenko , two sons were born in marriage, Philip and Andrey . The first wife was actress Larisa Kadochnikova , divorced [5] [6] .
