Biography
John George Ashley was born in Ontario in 1930. As a boy, he moved with his family to Preston (now also part of Cambridge, Ontario).
Junior played for the hockey clubs Toronto Marlies and Guelph Biltmores [1] . In 1950, went on the ice for the “ Toronto Maple Leafs ”, but later played for the teams of Pittsburgh and Syracuse in the American Hockey League . He ended his career as a professional hockey player three years later, deciding that he had reached the peak of his capabilities. He played as an amateur for several years.
Ashley began his career as a judge of the National Hockey League in 1959 [2] . The first year he mainly judged in the leagues of the American Hockey League and the US Hockey League , but in the next twelve years he was constantly enshrined in the NHL [1] .
He served as a hockey referee in 605 games, 17 games - as a line judge. From 1964 to 1972, he judged every 7 games in the Stanley Cup , which is considered confirmation of his high reputation [1] .
In 1981, he was included in the hockey hall of fame .
